Math Course 2.0 v4 – Basic Measurement Step by Step
Measurement determines the size, amount, or degree of something by comparing it to a standard unit of measure. Knowledge about measurement is an important math concept that children need to learn as it applies to the everyday functions of society
Grade 2-5
Whether determining how tall you are, figuring out how long it takes to get somewhere or finding the depth of a pool – measurement plays a key factor in everyday life – at school, work, play, and home.
Math Course 4, Basic Measurement: Step by Step addresses the major ideas of measurement by identifying measurable properties – length, area, volume, time and temperature. Students explore the standard units of measure for both the customary and metric system, the conversion between units, and estimation techniques for regular and irregular shapes. A complete List of Topics appears below.
The subject of Measurement is recognized as a complete ‘math strand’ within the math curriculum. Math Course 4 covers 38 learning outcomes which meet or exceed the standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for measurement at the elementary school level. These learning outcomes also correlate to state standards.
The Course content is organized sequentially so earlier Topics will correlate to the earlier delivery of curriculum. Most of the Topics are addressed in the curriculum in Grades 2 through 6. Consequently, our Grade rating for the Basic Measurement Course: Step by Step is: Target: 3 – 5, Remedial: 5 – 7, Enrichment: 2 – 4. Students can progress to grade level and suspend further work, or continue to move forward for enrichment.
