Math Course 3 – Geometric Shapes Step by Step

Geometry is the study of shapes and their properties. It is a math subject very different from numeracy skills. Knowledge about geometric shapes is important to design and provides structure for creative thinking.

Grade 3-8

SKU: GSSL-4330. Categories: , .
The proofs of geometry theorems develop logical and deductive reasoning powers – this is important more broadly to academic success and effective problem solving skills. Math Course 3, Geometric Shapes: Step by Step addresses the properties of common geometric shapes including triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, cubes, prisms and cones. Common geometric theorems are explained and proofs provided. Concepts of symmetry, and transformation of shapes by shifts, rotations, reflections and magnifications are also covered. The measurement of the perimeter, area and volume of shapes is not included in this Course. A complete List of Topics appears below. The subject of Geometry is recognized as a complete ‘math strand’ within the math curriculum. Math Course 3 covers 36 learning outcomes which meet or exceed the standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for geometry at the pre-high school level. These learning outcomes also correlate to state standards. Geometry curriculum is spread between Grades 4 and 8 and extends into high school. Its concentration by Grade varies by state. The Course content is organized sequentially so earlier Topics will correlate to the earlier delivery of curriculum. Most of the Topics are addressed in the curriculum in Grades 5, 6 and 7. Consequently, our Grade rating for the Geometric Shapes Course: Step by Step is: Target: 5,6 & 7, Remedial: 7 and up, Enrichment: 4 & 5. Students can progress to grade level and suspend further work, or continue to move forward for enrichment.
