The purpose of a simulation is to help understand the system under investigation, to describe its properties and predict its outcomes. In Science, simulations can help students to explore phenomena and develop scientific thinking. Simulation Insight can be used not only to run prepared simulations supporting upper middle school and high school science curriculum, but it also allows students too build their own sophisticated simulations. The features of this program include: choose input parameters for 56 prepared simulation models with physics, chemistry or biology themes, and observe the effects study the behavior of a system through use of animated graphics files analyze data generated by the simulation models with graphs, bar charts and tables modify existing simulation models or create entirely new simulation models import additional graphics to use in the simulation models ( you can create them in corefx!) a 83 page Activity Guide explains the use of the software features and provides the particular curriculum-relevant activities In addition to developing understanding of scientific concepts, Simulation Insight also develops critical thinking skills and computer skills. As such it supports the technology curriculum as well. Simulation Insight is an excellent teaching aid for the science classroom and has been designed for use with interactive whiteboards. Teacher Use of Simulation Insight: The Activity Guide is a complete manual for a teacher to use. It explains the tools of the software program and the features and uses of those tools. In summary, the recommended sequence is as follows: Start with a selection of the pre-built simulation models. Each simulation should prompt the students’ thinking about the science principles involved. By studying the simulation model, students will learn more about the relationships between variables Analyze the data generated by the simulation model using graphs, charts and tables. To analyze and display data, set the simulation model to record the data Adapt the pre-built models. Students should alter start values, values of constants, and relationships between variables to further their understanding of the science principles but also how the computer models work Build new models. With experience altering the pre-built models, students can proceed to design, build and run their own simulation models. They will need to think about variables, inputs, outputs, definitions for relationships, and the calibration of constants Create simulation scenes. With a new working model, students can design a graphical environment to enhance the presentation. Simulation Insight has galleries of animated graphical objects which can be assigned to variables. Customized graphics, photos and other digital images can easily be imported into the program. System Requirements: The program is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP and requires a minimum of 128 MB RAM and 100 MB of hard disk space.
